The earth has a surface area of 510,072,000 km², is made up of just fewer than 200 countries, and is home to an estimated 7 billion people. There is clearly a lot of exploring to do. Consider wandering the world around you, and check out these wonders for a bit of inspiration.
North America: Las Vegas
If you’re heading to North America, how can you not experience the madness that is Las Vegas? Erupting in the middle of the Mojave Desert, Vegas is truly unbelievable. Here you can try your luck in the casinos, party the night (and day) away, or discover the unexpected cultural aspects of the city.
South America: Peru
Why not head a little further south and explore Peru? Here you’ll find Machu Picchu, a remarkable 15th century Inca site on top of a mountain ridge. But Peru has even more to offer. You’ll find everything from sand dunes to mountains, and you can spend time surfing, trekking through the Amazon rainforest, or on another adventure.
Africa: South Africa
A quick hop across the Atlantic Ocean and you’ll arrive in South Africa. You can experience the safari of your dreams or climb Table Mountain, from where you can see the entirety of Cape Town. The country is also full of culture and history; meet the inspirational locals or visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.
Jump out of your comfort zone and visit Antarctica. Full of mountains, ice and water, there is nowhere else on earth like it. You can visit the South Pole, or discover the amazing wildlife that survive here. Believe it or not, there’s even a hot spring at Deception Island to enjoy!
Take a break from the cold and visit Thailand. Forget the car; here, you can travel by elephant. Who wants to shop on the ground? Floating markets are the way to do it! You could experience one of the country’s many celebrated festivals, or you can take it easy and discover the beaches, caves and coves along Thailand’s 5,000 miles of coastline.
Take a break from the cold and visit Australia. You can take advantage of some once in a lifetime opportunities. How about diving the Great Barrier Reef, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge or learning to surf at Bondi Beach? Now’s the time to perfect your dodgy Aussie accent!
Iceland is an absolutely beautiful country, and couldn’t be more different than England. Here is the perfect spot to search for the Northern Lights; a natural phenomenon that is truly breath-taking. There are also plenty of other things to enjoy. From whale watching to snorkelling between tectonic plates; exploring mountains or finding geysers; there’s something here for everyone.
