Inside Look at the Styling World of Jessica Paster

13th Feb 2014 / By Jessica Paster

Everyone thinks it is so easy to dress people for award shows, but what people don’t understand is that everyone needs to get dressed and there are only so many dresses. Here’s a red carpet round-up of the beautiful women I dressed this awards season!

Golden Globes
For the 2014 Golden Globes I dressed the lovely Aubrey Plaza. She wore a beautiful Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2014 gown, Christian Louboutin pumps, and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. Here is a play-by-play of what really goes on in a fitting for the Golden Globes.

This year was tough because we only had one week to prep for the globes. Usually it is on the 18th, but they pushed it up this year because of the Winter Olympics. So the fight for dresses was insane. Instead of doing my fittings on a Tuesday or Wednesday, I did my fittings on Thursday. To make matters worse, one of my nominees flew in the morning of for her fitting so you can imagine that that was a major curveball.

My first fitting was with Aubrey Plaza, we started off trying on the green Oscar de la Renta high/low gown which fit her beautifully, but Aubrey had her eye on a couple other options. The second look we tried on Aubrey was the dress she ended up choosing to wear on the red carpet! She decided to go with the purple Oscar de la Renta Pre Fall 2014 gown. What inspired me with this look was the multi-coloured sapphire necklace by Lorraine Schwartz. At 9 o’clock the night before, we chose Aubrey’s dress. Luckily, the style gods were on my side.

Lily Rabe was another actress who I dressed on the carpet. She was nominated for American Horror Story, she worked until 2am and hopped on a plane at 9:30am, where she then met with us at her hotel, and we had two full racks waiting for her. Lily wore a beautiful Georges Hobeika gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.

Next, lets talk about the party girls! The beautiful supermodel/super fashionista Miranda Kerr decided to go with an understated dress this year for the Golden Globes InStyle after party.  She chose an all-black long sleeve Pucci gown with a large body slit going down the side. She looked sexy and chic on the red carpet.

Lana Perilla, Rhona Mitra, and Danai were a few of the party girls. We did about 11 girls for the after parties.

SAG Awards
I flew to New York for a fitting for the SAG awards to dress Holly Hunter for the day, brought the dress back to get tailored and ready for Miss Hunter. She went with a beautiful Randi Rahm gown. She looked absolutely stunning on the carpet and I had so much fun dressing her.

I also dressed Hanna Simone for the SAG awards, and she wore a lovely light blue Marchesa gown. It was an effortless look for her and she looked absolutely lovely!

Grammy’s 2014
This year, I had the pleasure to dress the beautiful and hilarious Chrissy Teigen. She wore a stunning Johanna Johnson metallic gown to the award ceremony and then an Aloni black gown to the after parties. Chrissy absolutely killed it at both events and I am so happy she was able to literally shine on the red carpet.
