Autumn's Trends

This look was everywhere at the fall shows with tartan, straps, chains, spikes and leather all making their way down the runway. As a result, the studded pieces you have from last season are still going strong, but you can get more aggressive and take this trend to the extreme. Brigitte, a sexy platform pump, features a double studded ankle strap for maximum impact.Autumn Trend - Punk Rock

The menswear look, which I like to refer to as ‘feminised haberdashery’, is still very popular this season. Personally, I love a very feminine silhouette in a traditional menswear fabric, such as pinstripe gabardine or glen plaid. To add another dimension, I’d pair it with a more masculine shoe such as Sheldon, a studded oxford. Conversely, if you decide to wear truly traditional menswear, like a pair of tailored trousers, I’d go super feminine with your footwear and select a sultry pointy toe heel, like Severine.Autumn Trend - Menswear

There were so many beautiful shades of blue on the fall runways, and coincidentally, one of the questions I get tweeted the most is: “Is it okay to wear black with blue?” My answer is absolutely yes, and my tip is to be sure that there’s a visible difference between the two colours, particularly when you are wearing navy. You don’t want it to appear like you are passing off the shades as matching. One of my favourite black shoes this season that would look just smashing with blue is Ambrosia.Autumn Trend: Blue

Ladylike glamour is making a big return this fall, and one of the most popular and lovely silhouettes is a full skirt nipped in at the waist. Very classic and mid-century, it hearkens to Christian Dior’s new look and Alfred Hitchcock films. When wearing an old-fashioned look like this, I recommend going more modern with your shoe to put a fresh take on the style. A chunky stacked heel like Hollis would be my pick.Autumn Trend: Full Skirts

This sky-high style remains popular and looks great over pants or with a dress or skirt. When wearing a flat boot, like Landry, dress your lower body monochromatic to keep a long line. If you wear a heeled style, don’t go too sexy with the rest of your outfit, because the boot is sexy on its own. With all types of over-the-knee boots, I recommend showing no more than a sliver of skin above the knee to keep from overdoing it.Autumn Trend: Over-The-Knee Boots
